I went through a phone interview series where the interviewer focused intensely on optimization and kept pushing for faster solutions.

Phone interview (first technical round) — I started with a brute-force idea and explained my reasoning, but I was challenged immediately.
Phone interview (optimization round) — The interviewer repeatedly asked me to make the solution faster; I reached a point where I needed hints, but I wasn’t able to fully converge. Outcome: No offer—this path made optimization the deciding factor, and brute-force correctness wasn’t enough.
