The first coding round was rough for me and didn’t go the way I expected.

I was asked to design and implement an initial templating system with substitution, and although I tried to align the approach to what I thought was being requested, the direction didn’t click. I remember feeling like I could explain one way to do it, but I couldn’t tell what the interviewer really wanted from me in that specific coding segment. I left that round feeling completely mismatched with the expectations, and that ultimately led to my rejection.
