I had an initial chat with the hiring manager, and then the process moved into a coding screen and later an onsite.

I genuinely thought I did well, but afterward I learned I hadn’t answered one question the way they wanted—despite the fact that I had offered multiple solutions.

What stuck with me was how the recruiter described the issue. The feedback was framed as not going deep enough, but I felt like providing more than one approach should have helped my case rather than hurt it. Instead, it sounded like they viewed it as me “switching up,” and that interpretation felt harsh given how I had presented my thinking.

By the time I was done, the overall experience left me frustrated rather than reflective.
