I followed a recruiter-to-developer sequence with a small programming exercise and a final panel, ending in an offer.

Recruiter phone screen — I started with a quick call with a Ping recruiter.
Technical phone screen — Then I had a technical call with a senior developer.
Programming exercise — I received an exercise and had a few days to deliver a solution.
Two-hour panel discussion — I met with a dev team and management where my solution and experience were discussed. Outcome: Offer received, and my takeaway was that delivering the programming exercise well made the panel conversation straightforward.
