I had three rounds of interview, and I cleared all of them.

After the final round, HR came back with an update that they didn’t have budget to offer more than my current salary.

It really felt bad because it meant the process went on through multiple stages before the compensation constraint was shared. I felt like something should have been addressed earlier in screening instead of after clearing the interviews.

Even though I succeeded technically, the lack of budget meant I couldn’t move forward. The emotional takeaway for me was frustration that the process didn’t match the signal I’d been getting.
