PayPal Software Engineer interview experience

Posted Jan 2026 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I applied through the portal and the process was short and to the point, with only two rounds total.

After I applied, I was scheduled for an online assessment round where I had two coding problems. There weren’t any language restrictions, so I used what I was most comfortable with.

The second round was purely algorithm-focused. I got a recursion-based problem that was framed like a standard DSA recursion question. The whole interview felt straightforward rather than overly tricky, and it matched the kind of practice I’d expect for recursion problems. Overall the experience was focused on coding fundamentals more than system-level discussion, and it ended without an offer for me.
