My first screening ended in a quick stop for reasons that weren’t about my technical ability.

After a phone screen, I was told I wouldn’t move forward because they were only looking for U.S. citizens or green card holders. I explained that I didn’t need sponsorship and that my green card was in process, along with having an OPT card and the ability to work right away.

Even after sharing that, they didn’t advance me. The frustrating part was how immediate it was, and how clearly the decision was tied to eligibility rather than anything I could demonstrate in a later coding or technical round.
