My interview included a board of engineers, who would become my peers, and they asked about specific categories of skills.

The format made it clear they were trying to gauge breadth across different areas rather than searching for one perfect specialty.

They weren’t expecting me to know everything. The impression I got was that being well-rounded helped, and the conversation stayed within those broad skill categories.

The difficulty felt average because it required me to stay organized and responsive across topics. It also felt more peer-like than something strictly hierarchical, since the questions were coming from people who’d eventually work alongside me.
