Netflix Software Engineer interview experience

It started with an easy problem, then immediately extended into something medium. The core task was about extracting a value from a nested Map-like JSON structure using a jq-style dotted path.

What changed the difficulty was the wildcard requirement. The question expanded to support a “*” wildcard match, which forced me to think through how to traverse and match parts of the structure rather than just follow a fixed path.

I didn’t continue further, but the experience was easy to follow and it clearly tested targeted skills instead of tricky trickery.
