Netflix Software Engineer interview experience

The phone screen was a single coding problem—merge intervals—and once I passed, I moved to an onsite with four rounds.

The first coding round involved designing an in-memory file system with operations like mkdir, ls, and adding content. I used a HashMap paired with something Trie-like, finished in about 35 minutes, and then the interviewer pushed on concurrency. That turned into a discussion about read/write locking, which I hadn’t expected to go that deep.

The second coding round was about deserializing a binary tree, and I went with BFS using a queue to get an O(n) solution in about 25
