National Grid Software Engineer interview experience

My early interviews were less about content and more about how the conversations landed.

I had a first interview where the hiring manager was friendly but not very proactive, and it felt like the interaction never really found a rhythm. By the end, I could tell my chances weren’t great.

The awkward feeling showed up elsewhere too: I had another interview where the interviewers didn’t seem engaged, and the pauses were painfully long. It made the whole experience feel unmotivating and tense, like I was talking into a void. Even when the questions were framed professionally, I remember how much my confidence dropped when the room didn’t match the intent of a “live” evaluation.
