Morningstar Software Engineer interview experience

The reason given was essentially that they weren’t hiring after all. A week later, a recruiter called me again with a totally different message, saying they wanted to hire after all.

When the process finally landed, it turned into a coding exercise you did on your own time, and then a single long 2-hour interview that bundled multiple parts together—an overview of the exercise, coding questions, system design, and behavioral questions. During that 2-hour block, I was interrupted mid-flow and the call ended with a goodbye that felt abrupt, even though I felt like I was answering decently.
