I experienced MIT’s process as a long, high-touch but not particularly feedback-rich journey.

It kicked off with a phone call and then moved into an on-site interview phase that stretched over weeks overall. The format was heavy on technical conversation: I gave a presentation about my research, then I sat through multiple one-on-one meetings with people in the lab.

By the time I got to the full lab day, it felt like I was continuously switching contexts—short technical discussions, deeper dives, and a clear expectation that I could speak to my work at multiple levels. I also spent time in settings that went beyond just “interviewing,” including shared meals like lunch and dinner
