I ended up with a lot of steps—five to six interviews for this role—which made the whole thing feel like a serious time commitment.

First was an HR round, followed by a set of agile, non-technical questions that felt more like an exam or a viva than an evaluation of engineering thinking.

The technical interviews then became more specific and deeper. I had to explain my current project, and the discussion pulled in scattered but practical topics—things like 12 factors, ecommerce-focused scenarios, authentication and authorization, and improvements made for garbage collection in Java 8. There were questions on Spring bean topics and availability questions tied to Kafka, plus Java Stream API and REST API design
