I had an experience where the process started with an application and then quickly turned into an in-person conversation at the store.

I got called for an interview within about a week, and when I met with the assistant manager and the manager, the questions focused heavily on my previous work and what role I wanted.

During the discussion, I ended up talking about timing and compensation—especially since I had other work lined up. They were clear that they couldn’t match the pay elsewhere, but they offered a different path: instead of the title I originally expected, they pointed me toward an assistant-manager track and ultimately shifted it again into a sales representative position.
