Toronto, ONPosted May 2023 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for a Software Engineer role where the questions were direct and role/skill focused, but still didn’t feel like a technical stress test.

Recruiter screening — I started with a phone conversation about my background and motivation.
Department head / engineer conversation — I discussed how the engineering group operated, reviewed current work/projects, and talked through what my role would look like.
Deeper technical/career prompts — I was asked about strengths/weaknesses, a 5-year plan, and relevant certifications or procedures, plus my mindset and knowledge.
Leadership-focused follow-up — In another variant, a second phone interview focused on leadership qualities. Outcome: No offers were reported
