After an HR call, I got pulled into a fairly structured Director interview.

HR asked me about my current job and role, what I expected from the new position, and then the conversation moved into the Director’s technical portion. I had to draw on my research knowledge and also explain my client experience, plus my reasons for switching.

Once the technical and background discussion wrapped up, HR came back in to talk through compensation. The whole thing felt pretty demanding because it combined domain depth with a fairly direct read on my fit and motivations, and I didn’t end up receiving an offer.
