Hudson River Trading Software Engineer interview experience

Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

The interview experience was unusual right from the start: I wasn’t allowed to turn on my camera and had to use only audio.

Instead of a typical environment, I had to SSH into a server the interviewer provided and write code through terminal editors like vim.

Scheduling details came from an HR link that let me pick availability, and after submission the earliest slot was automatically matched. The identity of the interviewer wasn’t disclosed until the interview actually started, which added a little uncertainty to the setup. Once it began, though, it quickly became about whether I could code comfortably in a terminal-based workflow under interview pressure.
