HelloFresh Software Engineer interview experience

New York, NYPosted Feb 2024 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

My process dragged on through about four interviews, and then it shifted into an unpaid, timed project where I had to create recipes for them.

After that, they brought me in to cook for them—also unpaid—and they genuinely enjoyed the food and gave detailed feedback that made it seem like I was doing well.

But then everything stopped. Even after all that work and the positive reaction, I got completely ghosted. The pay they quoted for the role felt far below market, and the whole sequence ended up feeling wildly unprofessional rather than selective. The most memorable part was how the experience went from “we like what you’ve done” to silence, and I left it with a strong sense that I should stay away from the company.
