My recruiter call came in late on a Tuesday evening, which immediately felt a little off schedule.

He mostly wanted to clarify the role’s day-to-day, but he seemed rushed and told me I could ask anything I wanted when I met the manager.

The manager interview ended up being the real surprise. The role was presented as a strict tier 1 help desk position with no engineering work at all. The manager even said engineering could only potentially show up later through projects with new hires, which didn’t really mean much to me. That mismatch—especially with the “software engineer” framing I’d applied under—felt misleading and led to a big waste of time for both of us.
