Gusto Software Engineer interview experience

The format leaned heavily into pair-programming style work—less of a puzzle by yourself and more of a collaborative problem-solving flow.

The rounds didn’t feel brutally difficult, but they were a refreshing change of pace. I ran into interesting topics, and the fact that it was conversational rather than purely question-and-answer made it easier to stay engaged.

Overall, it felt like a fun process even though I didn’t land an offer. What stuck with me most was how much more natural the pairing format felt compared to the typical screen-style coding exercise.
