I had an early recruiter touchpoint and then stepped into a phone screening where the conversation was friendly and grounded in basic Java.

The questions weren’t meant to be trick-level; it felt like they were checking fundamentals and how I talked through what I knew.

After that, I reached the next phase where the coding interview setup tripped me up. The call wasn’t properly organized: I was given skeleton code right away without enough explanation of the problem, and then I ended up spending a lot of time figuring out what to do and how the test cases were structured. Because I didn’t have enough time to settle into the problem, I couldn’t get to a clean solution.

In the end, I didn’t receive an offer. What surprised me most
