I went through a difficult path with a fairly heavy focus on fit and technical knowledge once I reached New York, and both experiences felt more serious than casual.

Phone on-campus fit screen — The first stage was a fit-focused interview with an MD.
NY superday (mixed format) — The superday included three separate interviews: two fit/behavior rounds and one technical.
Similar technical-heavy superday (variant) — In another run, after two phone interviews, I reached the superday where the technical questions were strong and fit mattered a lot as well. Outcome: I didn’t receive an offer; the takeaway was that even when technicals weren’t extreme, fit and judgment consistently influenced results.
