After applying online, I got to a strengths-based video interview that asked a set of questions one by one.

Each response had a very tight rhythm: I had about 30 seconds to prepare, then around a minute to deliver what I wanted to say. The questions were aimed at the firm’s values, so I spent time thinking through my examples and how they aligned with CLEARR.

I remember how strange and impersonal it felt, because it was all mediated through the computer. It did make me feel dehumanised and, honestly, I carried that mood into my answers. I didn’t make it through to the next assessment centre stage, but I did get useful feedback afterward, and the recruiter felt friendly and supportive.
