After things were going smoothly for a couple rounds, the tone changed abruptly when I asked if I could speak with other women engineers in the company.

The conversation shifted in a way that made me feel like I was suddenly being pushed out of consideration. It wasn’t the technical part that felt off—it was the interpersonal moment where the process stopped feeling supportive.

Looking back, the most surprising thing was how quickly the dynamics flipped after I asked a straightforward question. I left that stage feeling discouraged, and I never reached an offer.
