I was given a take-home assignment that ended up taking roughly 60 hours of unpaid work.

After I submitted it, the process then scheduled a 3-hour remote video interview with five interviewers. When I asked why it wasn’t an in-person “onsite,” I was told they preferred remote interviews even for candidates they were keen on, possibly to save money.

The video interviews themselves were fairly straightforward and leaned heavily behavioral, but I noticed a recurring question about whether I would consider a total compensation number around $130,000. I answered that it didn’t feel competitive for someone with about five years of experience, and that theme stuck in the process.
