Fourkites Software Engineer interview experience

I was asked to implement a basic bash terminal using regex expressions, but I struggled because the requirements felt unclear and the interviewer wasn’t giving much extra direction.

Without enough clarity on what they expected, it became hard to make progress confidently on the problem. The format felt less like a guided technical discussion and more like a narrow implementation task where ambiguity hurt immediately.

I didn’t pass, and the hardest part was realizing the failure wasn’t just about my solution—it was about not having the inputs I needed to solve it the way they intended.
