My interview started with a technical phone conversation.

The interviewer was easy to get along with, though there was a slight accent that initially made him a little harder to understand until I adjusted.

The role expectations they talked about leaned hard into networking and systems foundations: networking topologies and components, standards, and programming, plus strong C/C++ and core data structures and algorithms. In practice, we didn’t spend much time exploring networking topologies deeply; there was a quick TCP-related question about setting up a connection, and most of the call shifted into how strong I was with C/C++.
