My first step was a straightforward phone screening where I talked through my experience and the projects I’d worked on, alongside the usual baseline questions.

The technical interview that followed was much more specific to the subject matter: it focused on knowledge of the general rendering pipeline and then went into detailed OpenGL questions.

The tone was fairly normal—no extreme gamesmanship—but the specificity of rendering and OpenGL made it feel like they expected real familiarity rather than surface-level knowledge. I didn’t get an offer, and looking back, I think the outcome came down to how well my background mapped to that very focused technical scope.
