San Francisco, CAPosted Mar 2020 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I started with a recruiter-style conversation where I talked through projects I’d done in my academic work and how they mapped to the software engineer job description.

That quickly turned into a technical thread around data and how systems think about storage usage.

I was then asked questions that mixed storage concerns with prediction-style analysis in machine learning. The interview felt fairly difficult because the discussion wasn’t just about describing concepts—it leaned into reasoning around how you’d handle the underlying problem when you’re trying to make predictions from data. I ended up not getting an offer, and the overall feeling was that I wasn’t able to land enough of the ML/prediction pieces they were looking for.
