San Francisco, CAPosted Jul 2016 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I didn’t make it past the technical phone screen, which surprised me.

They gave me a dynamic programming question that I recognized enough to solve using dynamic programming, but the interviewer seemed to expect a different complexity. I walked through my approach, and even though there was a bug at the beginning, I corrected it, ran tests in the coding environment, and explained the behavior and result.

The interaction felt somewhat confusing—like the interviewer’s expectations were misaligned with what I was producing—yet they still seemed at least not unhappy that I could reason it out. Even so, it took about a week for them to respond with a rejection.
