I started with a recruiter screen where the process was laid out fairly clearly.

They asked me to complete an unpaid take-home assignment that could realistically take something like 10–20 hours depending on how deep I went, and even though I got the transparency, the time cost didn’t feel justified.

After weighing it, I decided not to move forward with the take-home task and stepped away from the process early. I didn’t end up reaching the technical rounds, and the main feeling I had afterward was simple: the interview might have been straightforward, but the compensation didn’t match the effort they were asking for.
