I got scheduled for a phone screen that looked straightforward on paper: two algorithm questions at an LC-easy style level—one centered on arrays and the other on trees.

I finished both, so I expected a smooth next step. But I was still rejected, and it genuinely threw me off.

The difficulty itself didn’t feel brutal while I was doing it, which made the decision feel inconsistent with what I thought the bar would be. Even though the questions were labeled easy-ish, the screen didn’t translate into a pass.

I left with the clear sense that their screening bar isn’t just about whether you can solve the prompt; it’s also about how you do it and what they’re looking for beyond the final answer.
