I started with a technical phone screen that lasted about an hour.

It had a single coding question, and my solution matched all the sample inputs they provided. During the coding, they asked me to go into edge cases and also to explain the algorithm choice—how and why I picked the approach.

They even compared it to a similar algorithm, which forced me to articulate differences rather than just deliver code. That style made the screen feel like it was testing my understanding, not only whether the implementation worked.
