I joined a first-round phone interview, and for a sales conversation it didn’t come across as engaged. The interviewer seemed disconnected, which threw off my rhythm.

Even though I went in expecting a normal sales-screen format, the tone didn’t match what I was prepared for. There wasn’t much time to settle or properly get traction, and I didn’t feel like I was given the kind of two-way exchange that usually happens in these early rounds.
