My process began with a phone screen with HR where the conversation covered resume details, past project experience, and the impact and scope of what I’d worked on.

They also asked about my interest in the role and my intentions for why I was applying.

Compensation expectations came up too, which made the call feel more operational and less purely technical. Overall, it set the tone that the process wasn’t just about coding—communication and clarity about motivations mattered.

I didn’t end up with an offer after that stage of the overall process. What stayed with me most was how quickly it shifted from technical identity (what I’d built) into more practical career framing (why this role, how I thought about compensation).
