ByteDance Software Engineer interview experience

The interviewer was friendly, but I didn’t feel fully ready—this was my first interview in the United States, so I was still adjusting to the setting and pace.

Across the coding parts, I found the questions pretty manageable at first and leaned on my usual problem-solving habits. I worked through mediums in the live rounds, and behavioral questions were woven into the process rather than kept separate. One system-design-related round didn’t match what I expected: instead of high-level system design, it came across as low-level design, and the interviewer seemed noticeably disengaged, which
