I applied for a graduate Software Engineer interview that was fully online, and it centred on personality plus motivation for the company.

The questions probed why I wanted to be part of BHP, what specifically pulled me toward mining, and what I felt would make the role a good fit.

Everything felt geared toward understanding how I thought and why I was interested, rather than getting deep into technical specifics. I came away feeling like the process was evaluating fit and motivation first.

I didn’t end up with an offer, and my main reflection was that the whole experience was more about who I was and why than about demonstrating technical depth.
