Autodesk Software Engineer interview experience

Instead of asking a simple “what is a class” style question, the interviewer asked why I chose C++ over a managed language like Java or Python for my last project. I explained my reasoning around predictable performance and fine-grained memory control, and I tied it to a low-latency data processing context where garbage collection overhead wasn’t acceptable.

From there, the conversation naturally moved into RAII—how tying resource lifetimes to object lifetimes helps with deterministic cleanup. I walked through how that approach avoids the need for manual cleanup calls and keeps resource
