My first technical step was a short online round where I had to write code under fairly tight constraints.

I wasn’t allowed to rely on common helpers like sets or sorting, and the interviewer expected answers that were essentially the “right results” you’d find online—except I wasn’t given any real insight into their preferred approach while I was solving it.

It was about 45 minutes, and while the format was straightforward, the way it was evaluated threw me off a bit. I ended up feeling like the challenge wasn’t just about coding ability, but about guessing what the evaluator wanted to see.
