I applied for a full stack/MEAN-style role and quickly got a scheduling email from HR.

The next day I joined the online interview, and right away it felt misaligned: about 90% of the questions were SQL-focused, which made me feel like I was interviewing for a database-admin track instead.

I tried to stay open-minded since SQL is part of any stack, but the concentration of questions didn’t match what I understood the job to be. I’d worked with a broader technology range over my experience, so it was frustrating to feel like that context didn’t matter much in the questioning. The interviewer didn’t seem to factor in the wider set of technologies I’d used.

The biggest surprise
