I interviewed for the Software Engineer role in a web-heavy track that felt easy overall but had an unusual unpaid-work gate before final client testing, over roughly days to a few weeks.

Phone call — I introduced myself and the recruiter set up the next technical interviews.
Technical interview (JS/HTML/CSS/React) — I was tested on core web fundamentals and React concepts.
Unpaid work / internship gate — I was invited to unpaid work for about 6 weeks.
Final test for client work — A last assessment before any client project.
Outcome: Did not move forward—the technical portion was approachable, but the unpaid segment shaped my decision.
