Anthropic Software Engineer interview experience

Posted Jul 2026 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I took a phone screen near the end of the week, after a recruiter reached out.

The role was a staff-level software engineer position, and the call itself was framed like system design.

It didn’t feel like a quick “yes/no” conversational chat. Even on the phone, it was centered on designing systems—enough depth that it quickly shifted from generic background discussion into how I’d reason about architecture. I left the call feeling like I had been tested on fundamentals rather than just my resume, and I’m still gauging how far that type of evaluation usually goes.
