American Express Software Engineer interview experience

Phoenix, AZPosted Aug 2025 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

In Phoenix, the process felt challenging but also educational.

The interview experience leaned into emerging technologies and how they’re used in practice—Terraform, Sentinel, migrations from Java Spring to Kotlin, and integration of microservices using Go. The first part included coding tests and discussion of building experience, and then the later rounds shifted into a lot of deep technical questioning spanning many technologies and languages.

I didn’t receive an offer, but I walked away with a clearer picture of the kinds of stacks and problems the team actually works on.
