American Express Backend Engineer interview experience

I had two onsite rounds, and each started with questions tied directly to my work experience. Then it turned into whiteboard coding, where the coding problems focused on Java 8 features like streams and pattern matching, and there were also system design questions mixed in.

I got positive feedback in both rounds, and I walked away feeling like I’d done well. Still, I wasn’t selected afterward. Looking back, the most frustrating part was keeping faith in the signals I was receiving while the final decision didn’t line up with that positivity.
