The timeline leading up to my interview took weeks before it finally got scheduled, and during that time I was told to prepare to connect my experience directly to Amazon’s leadership principles and to use STAR for answers.

I was ready to do that.

When the interview finally happened, it surprised me: it was entirely a SQL assessment with no behavioral questions at all from the interviewer. So the preparation I’d been guided to do didn’t match the actual experience.

Even so, the SQL portion was the only real focus, and it made the day feel mismatched. The technical work itself was fine, but the disconnect between what I was told to prepare for and what I actually faced lingered after the fact.
