I came out of the interviews with a generally positive vibe, but I also got clear feedback that my background didn’t show enough hands-on developing experience for what they were looking for.

During the onsite technical discussions, I answered a lot of behavioral questions that were pulled toward the data engineering side—Kafka and Linux-type topics came up more than I expected—rather than the development of APIs.

It was one of those situations where I could communicate the concepts well, but the direction of the questions left me feeling like my strongest experience wasn’t the same shape as the role. I didn’t get an offer, and the biggest takeaway for me was how much the evaluation emphasized direct developing depth, not just adjacent domain knowledge.
