Right away, my process felt oddly off.

The recruiter screen started with her showing up without her camera on, and even though I kept mine active, the interaction felt more like she was scanning my answers than engaging with me. She acknowledged that the invite didn’t mention camera-off, but said she’d take notes off camera to stay focused.

At first, the call followed the usual recruiter flow: walking through my professional history, what had me looking around, and what I understood about the product. Then she dropped into a question about troubleshooting a webpage—something that wasn’t mentioned in what I’d been told to expect.
