I went into an interview that asked me to implement a String type in C++.

It included core mechanics like the constructor and destructor and then several string operations.

The interview lasted about 50 minutes, and it felt like a practical coding-theory test wrapped into a live build. I asked a few questions at the end, but the main evaluation was clearly whether I could implement the pieces correctly under time pressure.

I didn’t get an offer. My reflection was that they were judging fundamentals and implementation discipline, not just high-level explanations.
