My interview sounded standard at first, centered on sales of industrial gases.

Even though it was framed in that way, it was clear they were also looking for someone with sales experience and a longer-term mindset.

They seemed to want a person who could “settle in” and grow into the role rather than someone who was just starting out after being newly qualified. I understood that the evaluation wasn’t only about skills—it was about durability and willingness to commit.

I didn’t receive an offer, and the main takeaway was that the sales focus was real, but the deeper requirement was finding someone they could count on long term.
